Lodestones

Lodestone is a permanent magnet composed of crystalline magnetite and maghemite.  It is commonly believed to be created by lightning strikes to the more common mineral, magnetite.  The first compasses were made with lodestones, as when suspended they line up with the Earth’s magnetic poles.  Peregrinis and Bacon, scientists of the middle ages, worked with lodestones and used them as the basis for a perpetual motion machine.

The lodestone, also known as the Philosopher’s Stone, has been held in high regard by the ancient Romans, Chinese, Mohammedans, and other peoples as a powerful amulet and good luck charm, probably because the magnetic property of the stone was perceived as having the ability to attract power, favors, and gifts. Ancient Romans believed that lodestone kept husband and wife faithful, making their love secure.

As modern man has become separated from the Earth’s grounding energy by shoes, buildings and other man-made things, including the effects of the electromagnetic smog of modern conveniences, humans are removed from the healing energy of contact with the ground.  The unique magnetic energy of the lodestone is believed to help with pain relief, ease muscle tension, and promote restful sleep by giving us back that grounding.
